A New Challenge: Will All the Moms-to-Be Please Stand...or Sit!

Today, I'm linking up with Amanda from i am mommy for a fun challenge!

When I was eight months pregnant with Cloe, my friend Jessica gave me a call one afternoon and said, "You're going to have a baby soon, and you're busy teaching all day, so I'm bringing over supper.  What do you like?"

In my typical, indecisive manner,  I him-hawed around and asked her to surprise us.

Wow!  What a surprise: we got the biggest bag of the best Italian food!  It was so good.  I can still remember how much we enjoyed that hot, delicious meal!

She also brought us the cutest, softest baby blanket.  Jessica and her boyfriend Andrew had made us the beautiful knotted fleece blanket.  Isn't that the cutest?  Our kids still cuddle up with it today!

So, yesterday when I read Amanda's challenge for National Help a Pregnant Woman Day on March 3, I was reminded of Jessica's kindness.  I immediately jumped on board.  I thought through my list of "mommies to be" (that I know of--announcements are welcome!) and started getting ideas rolling of how to show these moms that they are loved and appreciated!

How about you?  Do you know of Mom-to-be that could use a little help or an act of kindness?

Here are some of Amanda's ideas for helping or acts of kindness:

Stop by and fold some laundry.

Drop off baked goods.

Send flowers.

Hand write her a note of love and appreciation

Babysit her other kids for an hour.

Send her a gift card to Starbucks. (for after the baby of course!)

If you are pregnant... just send a link of this post to everyone you know!
Maybe someone will read it and snap up the opportunity to do something for you!

So what do you think?  Can we make March 3rd National Help a Pregnant Lady Day?
Who are you going to help?

Thanks, Londa! That was fun to read and remember. It was so long ago, but I'm pretty sure I remember what prompted that phone call. Brenda was talking about our wonderful Londa who was barely able to stand up straight, but went right on cheerfully bustling around at a 90 degree angle, saying, like it was nothing, "Oh, it's just more comfortable when I lean over like this. Now what can I do for you?" :)

That was the first of many fun times with pregnant friends. My all-time favorite:
Give her a pedicure! If you're loaded, then pick a nice salon and get the gift certificate, or go along with her. But if you're a normal sale-watching mom like me, get a fun new color and head on over to paint her toes! She'll be so surprised, and grateful, since she might not be able to see or reach them anymore! Better yet: make it OPI (ask Londa how to pronounce this), and leave her the bottle for touch-ups. Many of us have this insane pregnancy fear of heading to the hospital to deliver our baby and discovering that our toes are ugly and chipped. Ugh!

I have a foot spa that I've hauled around town for such occasions, sometimes leaving it for months so she can enjoy it longer. And bring a warm aromatherapy neck wrap if you have one. Sometimes they go on sale at Kohls for $8.

OK, this was meant to be a good idea, not a brag session. I just get all excited about pregnant bellies growing and fun ways to pamper those tired little mamas!

Another tip: if she has other kids, offer to watch them so she can enjoy some solace before the sleepless stretch begins. Actually, she might already be in that stretch, getting up every 3 1/2 minutes to pee, and trying unsuccessfully to find a comfortable position to fall asleep.

Thanks for passing on the idea for March 3! Time to start scheming and inventing new ideas!

Baked goods are always good, and flowers are nice, I can fold my own laundry-don't mind that chore. I am too tired to leave the house. Just kidding I don't need those things. I did link your blog though :o)

Love this challenge. Love that I have a new friend who I just found out is pregnant :-) I have a friend from college who I just reunited with - Deborah - such a sweet girl; she is expecting her first and I can't wait to surprise her with something next Wednesday. I have a few days to come up with something good!!! It would be REALLY fun if you came out with an announcement after spurring all kinds of interest in helping pregnant peeps. Come ON Londa, just do it! Literally and figuratively. Ha ha ha.
