Thrifty Thursday!

Thrifty Tip #22: Some thrifty thoughts on garage sales...

*Check craiglists or advertisements for garage sales and map out a systematic plan of attack.  Gas is not cheap, and using up a tank to drive back and forth all over town defeats the purpose of finding great deals at garage sales.

*Just because it's a good deal doesn't mean I need to take it home.  Wise stewardship...practice it!

*Along the same lines, know what you need, and stick to it.  I have a good friend who knows exact sizes and seasons of clothing that she needs for her children.  She's focused!

*A more serious note...don't be a jerk to get a bargain!  I'm sure we've all seen "that lady" who grabs across the table and snatches the very thing we were picking up just to march it over and ask the host to take a lower price.  God has really placed it on my heart that even a garage sale can be a place to act like Jesus Christ--loving others, putting others before ourselves, acting kind, being grateful...think about it!  Is a good deal worth ruining a testimony of a loving Savior?

So there you have a few of my garage sale tips!

The word is out that this is a BIG weekend for neighborhood garage sales...thrifty thinking right there!

Have fun and let me know what good deals you find!

Great tips! I'm totally a "mapper." Saves so much time and money! And thanks for the reminder to not be "that lady" and to show Christ. That can be a toughy at good sales. :)

Well.....I just hit some good ones in Waukee this morning! :) I finally found one that had good boy clothes that weren't all worn...not as good as yours, but pretty good! I'm getting much better at not buying something JUST because it's cheap. It's hard, but after a few years of this I'm finally getting better.
I've also learned to not be swayed by a sign that's not on your list. You end up driving around more and it's rarely worth it. Stay focused! :)

Good reminders on being Christ-like EVEN at garage sales!! Thanks!

Thank you for the reminder that just b/c it's cheap doesn't mean I NEED it. I'm having a garage sale in a few weeks, and many of the items I'm selling are things I bought at sales last summer! :)

I honestly can't remember the last garage sale I've been to. I've located a couple of 'nice' thrift stores in the area though. Gotta satisfy my hunger for a great bargain! ;) Great tips... especially not bringing it home if you don't 'need' it. Good stuff. ;)

Hi there, thanks for the comments on my Happy Healthy Banana Muffins. I was suprised when I looked at your google profile to find you are in Des Moines. I grew up in Ames and just moved a couple months ago to Indiana. Did you know that there is an Iowa Bloggers Association they meet the first Friday of the month at Panera on University. There is also a gathering group of Iowa Food Bloggers. If you want more information I can give you some names to contact.

You have a very cute blog. Kudos!
