Thrifty Thursday!

Thrifty Tip #39:  Want perfect popcorn at a fraction of the price of the packaged stuff?  Give one of these easy popcorn poppers a try!
Air popper...pops with just kernels and hot air.

Stove-top popper...pops with kernels, a little oil and salt to taste.

I would venture to say that we consume popcorn more than any snack food item at our house!   It's an easy snack that provides us with a good serving of fiber and even has protein and iron in it!

Making your own popcorn is much cheaper and healthier than popping a bag in the microwave.

We love to buy Snappy popcorn because it's only $1 for two pounds (about ten cents a batch) and it's grown right in our very own state...the corn state!
We pop about 1/2 cup of popcorn with about a tablespoon of olive or vegetable oil and a dash of salt.

There are always plenty of helping hands for the
two minutes of cranking.

How do you make your popcorn?

*Thank you, Rachael Ray, for bringing this fabulous thrifty tip to mind!

Wow. I just use the bags. We really dont eat much popcorn. But I must say I am all about doing stuff myself to get away from any preservatives and junk. Great idea!

My parents have a fancy popcorn popper and I've always wanted to hop on the bandwagon, but I just haven't yet. Maybe this post is just the jumpstart I need! :)

We have an air popper and love it! I got it when I was pregnant with Lydia. Popcorn was my craving of choice. Luckily it was a healthy craving.

I have a microwave popper that just uses a smidgen of oil. Andrew loves it. And Titus is suddenly all about popcorn. "My po'corny, mama. My po'corny." But we've been naughty and feasted all summer on the also yummy but far less healthful gourmet stuff from the farmer's market. (Did you know they make dark chocolate covered cherry popcorn?) --Jess

I love air-popped popcorn, but am lazy and not-so-healthy and use the microwave kind. I eat a LOT of popcorn. Like, a LOT. I should really buy a popper! I'll be on the look out at Goodwill....

I ALWAYS make it over the stove. I think microwave popcorn tastes disgusting. Just a little oil and salt and I'm good to go.

We are the same way... we make it almost every single night!! Hubby only likes white kernels, so we pay about $4 for a 2 lb bag, but the flavor is wonderful!

Would you think awful of me if I told you I wanted to pinch their cheeks? Adorable!

The only time I ever use my microwave is to make popcorn... hanging head in shame. :)

I love, LOVE my whirly pop and it is the only way I make popcorn!! Friday night was always popcorn/movie night at our house when my kids were young. Our favorite is to add some Parmesan cheese to the popcorn!!
