Thrifty Thursday!

This week, I'm answering the Ask the Reader Question: Is a chest freezer worth the investment? from Money Saving Mom.

Thrifty Tip #59:  A chest freezer is completely worth the money!

*It allows you to stock up when frozen items are on sale.

*A chest freezer is a great investment if you want to freeze applesauce, roasted tomatoes, or other produce from your garden.

*A chest freezer also provides ample space for meat and keeps it from getting frost bite much sooner than a refrigerator's freezer.

We keep our chest freezer in the garage which is a perfect out-of-the-way place for us.  I know other families keep their freezer in their basement.  The nice part is they can be placed anywhere convenient for your family!

How would you answer this question?

Do you have a chest freezer?

Has it been worth the money for your family?

We LOVE ours. And it was free, so we especially love it. :)

We just got ours last year and I don't know how we lived before we had it! I love it for buying great deals in bulk. Also, every time I make soup, I always do a double batch and freeze the half we're not eating flat in a freezer bag, write what soup it is and the date, and put them in the chest freezer like a file I can flip through. So, YES, I totally agree! DEFINITELY worth the money!! :)

Sadly...we do not have one. HOWEVER it's not because I don't want's because I have NO place for it right now in our life. However I grew up with a deep freeze SO I'm sure I will be able to talk my hubby into getting one for me . :)

We love our freezer! We have an old refrigerator that has the little freezer compartment inside the fridge. We could never get the temperature right to keep frozen foods (especially ice cream) properly frozen without also freezing our milk and produce.

Ours was free, used but it very good condition, so it is definitely worth just the electricity to run it.

We keep it full with bread (stock up at the bread outlet store and local Arab bakery), homemade soups, meat (stock up when on sale), spaghetti sauce & meatballs and a few other pre-cooked entrees, some fruits & veggies gotten while in season, and there is always room for ice cream. :)

NO, we do not have one. YES, we want one! We've thought about it so many times, but just have never taken the plunge. They aren't even that expensive so I don't know what's taking us so long!
